The History of Nordship Yachts
Over four decades of designing and hand-crafting premier Danish centre-cockpit deck saloon yachts for sailors around the globe.
The beginning of a yard
The Danish yard Nordship Yachts ApS was founded in 1978 under the name Buchwald Yachtværft. The founder of the company Lars Buchwald started by making accommodation and acting as a sub-contractor for several well-known Danish shipyards.
During the years we have gathered great knowledge from building and developing racing yachts, producing one-off custom projects, and creating several boats designed for sailing around the globe.
Birth of Nordship
In 1988 Lars Buchwald acquired the rights for the Nordship boat program, which marked the start of an extensive development program where all the experience from previous constructions was applied to developing new Nordship models.
The Nordship Program dominated the production of the yard to such a degree that the company name was officially changed to Nordship Yachts ApS.
The first deck-saloon
In the early 90s the first deck-saloon yachts were introduced. The success of these models was so great, that towards the end Nordship models consisted exclusively of Deck Saloon Yachts, produced individually to meet each specific client's wishes and sailing ambitions.
40 years of knowledge
In 2008 the yard celebrated its 30-year jubilee and moved to the current premises in Lunderskov. This milestone was celebrated with a reception for business partners and a gala party for Nordship owners from across Europe.
Celebrating 40 years in the boat industry in 2018, Nordship Yachts was widely recognized as one of the leading global manufacturers of Deck Saloon Yachts.
In 2025, Nordship Yachts fully joined forces with Faurby Yachts and will continue as the DS line under the Faurby name.
Nordship Yachts Vision
Nordship Yachts is one man’s vision to make Danish centre cockpit deck saloon yachts for long-distance voyaging. That man is Lars Buchwald. He and his team of highly skilled craftsmen set out to make high-quality hand-crafted yachts that will keep you safe and comfortable wherever and whenever you choose to sail.
Offering a range of yachts from 36ft to 43ft (11–13.35m) with full custom interiors that hold true to Lars’ vision and values. As well as a Custom Line series—full-custom yachts from 46ft (14m) upwards.
